Most recent research supports lower dose Lithium (mineral) as having not only beneficial effects on mood (mild to moderate depression and anxiety), but also serving as a protective/promotive factor to brain cells. Li is possibly preventing Alzeimer's and Parkinson's b/c it's ability to slow down programed cell death - also, some reports that it actually can rebuild some gray matter...
