A Soviet scientist, Dr. I. Brekhman, did early research on Eleuthero root, known at that time as Siberian Ginseng. His work popularized the term "adaptogen". As our recent news release (http://www.thenhf.com/article.php?id=3212) stated, H.R.3380 is the only game in town. We feel this is not an arrogant statement but one that reflects the reality of this critical situation to save our supplements concerning the recent draft guidance issued by the FDA this past Summer. A month later, the NHF proposed legislation that Representative Dan Burton sponsored, and our lobbyist, Lee Bechtel immediately hit the halls of Congress obtaining co-sponsors for our Bill. The Federation met this challenge head on.
What has transpired:
- The FDA “Draft Guidance Comment period” has ended.
- Supplement Trade Groups have held back hoping for draft text changes or withdrawal.
- Hatch/Harkin letter sent to the FDA requesting withdrawal of the draft guidance has failed.
- All but three health-freedom groups have failed to join us in our drive to pass H.R.3380.
This is a 1994 (DSHEA) situation all over again. We did it then and won and we can do it again. Every individual, every health-freedom group, every dietary-supplement trade and industry organization must get onboard H.R.3380 and do it now. The massive united power of “the people” can make our desires a reality. We currently have 3 co-sponsors but we need more.
Join the strength of the Federation, let the FDA and Congress understand they work for you and your health options should never be taken away. Pressure your trade group to get onboard, educate others, and most importantly, make it your goal to get your Congressional representative to co-sponsor H.R.3380. Our Bill is your voice and the hammer to end this FDA fiasco.
H.R.3380 currently sits at the Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee. We are ahead of the curve and those who are not onboard need to catch up. The Federation is forging ahead but we need everyone to shed their apathy, fear of the FDA, grab a back-bone, and show the FDA the same rage and solidarity that transpired in 1994 over saving our supplement rights then.
